The original house was built between 1805 and 1833 - one of the earliest on Lot 52 in the first 100 of Charlottetown's original  '500 Lots'.

The image on the right shows the house, with its small dormer on the front, as sketched in 1863.

Originally a one and one-half storey house (constructed of 3" thick  by up to 27 ½" wide vertical planks), it has been home to the Mills family since the 1920's when it was purchased by Thomas Mills who added a second storey and attic, creating the classic Foursquare exterior style you see today.

The interior has been renovated and restored with an eye to detail - retaining a  traditional feel while providing modern conveniences.
